Cytochrome P450 (Use Case)

The Cytochrome P450 enzyme family plays a critical role in the metabolism of pharmaceutical drugs. Accurately predicting these reactions, however, remains a significant challenge, as traditional supercomputers struggle to model the enzyme’s active site, where electrons exhibit strong correlation effects. As indicated by their research, quantum computing could offer a more precise alternative by natively simulating the quantum-mechanical behavior of such electronic structures. Variational Compilation of Block Encoding (VCBE) and its extension, a method that decomposes complex problems into smaller, manageable sub‑problems. These methods serve as an important subroutine for Quantum Phase Estimation algorithms, enabling efficient and accurate treatment of intricate electronic structures and potentially supporting future quantum‑computing approaches to molecules such as the P450 enzymes.
