TESAT provi­des key compon­ents for satel­lite commu­ni­ca­ti­ons used in telecom­mu­ni­ca­ti­ons, naviga­tion, climate and Earth obser­va­tion, as well as scien­ti­fic appli­ca­ti­ons. Its product portfo­lio ranges from the smallest space speci­fic compon­ents to modules, complete assem­blies, and payloads. More than half of all commu­ni­ca­ti­ons satel­li­tes in orbit carry TESAT equip­ment on board. It is develo­ped, assem­bled, integra­ted, and tested by around 1,100 employees in Backnang, Germany. TESAT is a techno­logy leader in optical commu­ni­ca­ti­ons and offers scalable, serially manufac­tu­red, and in orbit verified laser termi­nals. The company serves commer­cial and insti­tu­tio­nal space programs and, as a leading manufac­tu­rer in its field, contri­bu­tes to sustain­ably connec­ting the world and making it a better place for everyone.

Activities

EAGLE‑1 is Europe’s first satel­lite based end to end QKD system, funded by ESA and the EU, led by SES with TESAT and the DLR Insti­tute for Commu­ni­ca­tion and Naviga­tion contri­bu­ting to the develo­p­ment of the QKD payload.

QTRIP is a project with Fried­rich-Alexan­der Univer­sity, funded by the German Aerospace Center (DLR) Space Adminis­tra­tion, which inves­ti­ga­tes and imple­ments QKD trans­mit­ters, proto­col managers, quantum random number genera­tors, and recei­ver systems for the QKD module.

PoLiSiQ: Together with Fraunhofer HHI and other partners, TESAT inves­ti­ga­tes the suita­bi­lity of photo­nic integra­ted circuits based on a hybrid LiNbO3/Si3N4 techno­logy, funded by the German Federal Minis­try of Educa­tion and Research (BMFTR), for example to minia­tu­rize a QKD transmitter.
